The Alexander Technique — a mental discipline that enables one to progressively undo one's lifelong accumulation of habits of body misuse — completely saved me from what looked imminently to become a personal disaster for me. Through the Author's own use of the method he came to recognise that the AT is very widely not properly understood — the situation exacerbated by a high proportion of AT teachers not having sufficient depth of awareness ever to fully understand what they're teaching, beyond an intellectual understanding of the physical aspects and a certain competence in following and teaching the instructions and rules they'd been taught.
When used with full awareness and understanding, the AT can bring about major and remarkably comprehensive positive life change and be a major means towards becoming enlightened through cultivating a much superior version of what people often call 'mindfulness' — and is a MUCH healthier means towards that than extensive use of meditation. It is thus a tremendous aid towards the ultimate mental health that a genuine self actualization process brings about.
